The story: When I bought this stone cottage it had no upstairs, no heating, no plumbing, dodgy electrics and no inside toilet! Since then I've had the place rewired and plumbed, added a first floor and stairs, created two en-suite bathrooms each with shower and toilet (with a brand new septic tank in the garden), had the outside repainted, installed a wood burner in the kitchen and living room, put electric heaters in all other rooms, raised the roof level of the outhouses ready for conversion, installed Velux windows in the roof...

Basically, it's had a lot of work done to make it a great place to live in.

The house is situated in a small hamlet with no through traffic at all. The alley you can see on this photo leads onto the fields just behind the house.

So let's have a look round!

There are three main rooms downstairs. The front door opens directly onto the kitchen with cupboards, shelves, plumbing for appliances such as dishwasher / washing machine. At the far end of the kitchen is a stable door that exits to the garden.

The garden and view were a big reason for me buying the house in the first place. The back of the house is south-facing and gets the sun all day long. The garden looks out onto a field and rolling hills. It's calm, and the views at sunrise and sundown can take your breath away. There's a large gravel patio and outdoor brick barbecue too.

Back inside, the kitchen leads onto a room that I use as an office and living room. The stairs are here, and there's a fireplace that now has the wood burner installed. The room is freshly painted, and gets lots of sun from its south-facing window.

Carrying on downstairs, we arrive in the end room, the living room. There's a high wooden ceiling with beams, and it has recently been painted white, so it's extremely airy. A window gives onto the drive, and there's a door with steps that lead out to the garden.

This rooms is the biggest of the house and I've had shelving built onto the end wall, which is great for tidying stuff away neatly.

If we go upstairs, there's a sunken landing, and a slightly low beam crossing it (structural, couldn't be moved). There's a bedroom to each side, each with en-suite bathroom, window and Velux. Very comfy.
